Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available within a school district in Metairie, LA. This contract role offers 35 hours per week and multiple openings, providing interpreters the opportunity to support students across various grade levels including preschool, elementary, middle, and high school. Caseload specifics will be finalized during the interview process based on the candidate's relevant experience. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and educators by interpreting conversations, lessons, and activities accurately and efficiently. Collaborate with teachers and school staff to ensure clear understanding and inclusivity in the classroom. Support students individual 1:1 needs as required. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Adapt interpreting methods to meet the needs of students of different ages and educational settings. Qualifications and Experience: Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter is required. Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably across elementary, middle, high school, and preschool environments. Ability to manage varied caseloads and provide personalized 1:1 support. Strong communication skills and cultural competency in the deaf community.
