Director of Curriculum and Instruction (2021-2022) ARISE Academy is a K-8 charter school located in the 9th Ward of New Orleans that proudly serves over 500 students, the majority of which come from the surrounding area.   • Vision: We provide a place where team members are trusted, trained, and coached in order to lead with the mission and implement the vision of ARISE Schools.
  • Decision Making: Make decisions with leadership in order to maximize the school's vision and mission.
  • School Leader Mentality -Attend weekly Leadership and Academic Leadership Team meetings to strategize with respective team members
  • Supporting and Leading Teams -Directly managing and supporting staff members on your team. Maintain high expectations by holding team members accountable and having difficult conversations
  • Leading Professional Development -Seek professional development opportunities. Participate in professional development provided by school and network. Complete next steps from professional development sessions (consultant visits, out of school PDs, etc.). Participate in weekly 90 minute 03s with your principal and/or coach Planning and Preparation
    • Vision: We strategically target instruction through thoughtful choices for staffing, content, methods, materials, and environment.
    • Scheduling and Staffing: Ensure the daily schedule is implemented for all grades/disciplines you support. Know instructional minutes and class agendas for all teachers you support. Ensure class agendas are being implemented. (If changes to the schedule, discuss with the CO, CMT and get final okay from the principal). Schedule sub coverage and ensure instructional materials are prepared for substitutes. Internalize the staffing model for the grades/academy you support. Take the lead on hiring new staff members for the grades/content areas you support. Work to retain top performing team members
    • Academic Content: Ensure there is a plan for rigorous instruction. Communicate regularly with the school's Content Leaders and have knowledge of the scope and sequence for the teachers you support. Act as a resource when adjustments are needed. Read lesson plans weekly and provide feedback. Read and digest all unit plans for the school year before each unit. Complete each IA for the grades/content you support before the IA is given. Ensure Academy Google Drive folders are updated weekly with lesson plans and handouts. Work with the Director of Student Support Services to ensure their is a plan for success for ALL students regardless of exceptionality Observation and Feedback
      • Vision: We develop teachers through targeted support for growth that leads to student achievement.
      • Coaching and Evaluating Teachers: Observe teachers and prepare for teacher debrief sessions. Schedule weekly observations as needed to see trends in grade levels or across subject areas. Document observations for teacher development tracking. Provide feedback to teachers based on established schedule.
      • Professional Development: Plan and execute instructional professional development beginning with summer professional development and throughout the school year. Collect all PD plans in for future use. Onboard new staff members to the team by facilitating professional development sessions throughout the year as new employees join. Data Driven Instructiion
        • Vision: We target instruction that immediately, and over time, responds to student needs through the use of assessment results and progress monitoring.
        • Assessment and Data: Own the student achievement results for all students, including Special Education Students and students in Response to Intervention. Work towards achieving the school's big goals for student achievement. Lead regular data/assessment PD based on teacher and school needs.
        • Testing Coordination: Act as the MAP coordinator for your subject area.
        • Grading: Ensure gradebooks are updated weekly for all teachers you coach
        • Academic Climate: Ensure there is rigorous instruction in all classrooms by: improving the quality of classroom instruction through targeted coaching.
        • Report Cards: Ensure report cards accurately represent student performance.
        • RTI: Lead grade/ Academy data meetings analyzing data of students in intervention. Ensure T1, T2, T3 intervention is taking place. Strategize with teachers and parents on ways to support scholars behind grade level.
        • Student Retention: Monitor the report card process to ensure the ARISE Schools retention timeline. Student Culture
          • Vision: We create an environment that demands student excellence and academic achievement for all students through consistency and enthusiasm.
          • Behavioral Climate: Implement the school's discipline policy. Support teachers with establishing and enforcing behavioral expectations. Sweat the small stuff. Adult Culture

            • Build relationships with the teachers you support. Participate in the hiring process for staff members joining your team. Celebrate teacher's success and challenge areas for growth Education & Experience
              • Demonstrated record of success raising test scores in an open-admissions urban school
              • At least five years experience as a teacher in an open-admissions urban school
              • At least two years of leadership in an open-admissions, urban school, with experience in developing teachers
              • Record of success in leading adults; experience with management and supervision
              • Knowledgeable about Common Core Standards and aligned instruction
              • Be proficient in using data in the decision-making process
              • Preferred, but not required: MA, MBA or MEd Physical Requirements
                • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
                • Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.) Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
