The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Affairs Health Care System is
seeking a Inpatient Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist, as well as,
cross coverage for Medicine and Surgery for a general psychiatric
acute care ward for the Psychiatry service. This psychiatrist will
provide prompt counseling and diagnostic assessment and evaluation,
communication with admitting teams, and discharge planning on all
patients in collaboration with mid-level practitioners.Note: Only
education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions

Provide counseling liaison services for adult and geriatric
psychiatric care, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric
consults, medication management, and individual or group
-- Provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services
to veterans in need of psychiatric consultation services;
-- Provide a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a
variety of physical and/or behavior problems;
-- Provide direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses
or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate;
-- Serve a population which consists of male and female Veterans of
all ages and common diagnoses including anxiety disorders,
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, major depression and other mood
disorders. In addition, the incumbent will provide consultation for
Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Serious
Mental Illnesses, Dementias, and mental disorder related to
Traumatic Brain Injuries;
-- Establish professional working relationships with other clinical
service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics,
provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed;
-- Document observations, assessments, and changes in patient's
condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate
positive patient care outcomes.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday and Weekends - On-call, Days or
Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.The individual must
qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an
accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified
the individual to perform general duties and some specialized
functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may
also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in
facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who
are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects
in their field of medicine.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements
by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed
when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance
with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting
from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The
degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by
the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course
of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or
surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United
States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved
by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core
specialty training program leading to eligibility for board
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible
