POSITION TITLE: IT Clinical Informatics Specialist
--
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Director of Training & Optimization, the Clinical Informatics Specialist is accountable for the delivery of value-added health care informatics and technology which supports the strategic plan of the organization and achieves clinical, financial, and service quality objectives. To achieve this objective, the Informaticist independently manages communication and coordination of clinical service line participation to meet organizational objectives. This role is accountable for the quality of informatics services delivered, for coordination with IT application build and training teams, for coordination across system hospitals, and for contributing to the design and maintenance of systems to support multidisciplinary team functioning and continuity of services within LCMC Health. The Clinical Informatics Specialist also manages small to medium projects or specific aspects of larger projects for clinical or business applications in the healthcare environment.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education
Minimum Required: Associates Degree RN (7 years of relevant experience in Lieu of Bachelors) or Bachelors degree in nursing (RN-BSN)
Preferred: Masters Degree in nursing and/or degree/certification in clinical informatics

Experience
Minimum Required: Minimum of 3 years working in a healthcare environment/ healthcare IT
Preferred: Proficiency and/or certification in at least 2 EPIC modules/applications; prior implementation and support of clinical systems, especially EPIC.

License/Certification
Minimum Required: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana, or eligibility for licensure.

Minimum Required:
1. Demonstrated highly effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated effectiveness as a group leader and participant. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple members of the health care and administrative leadership team.
2. Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop conceptual designs for clinical and/or revenue cycle services; plans and organizes successful projects.
3. Analysis and problem-solving principles with emphasis in user relations, data gathering techniques and management of information applications is required.
4. Understands the impact of applications on healthcare processes; and the integration/relationships between and among organizational applications.
5. Ability to supervise a project team of analysts, end users, trainers, and consultants, specifically, to coordinate daily activities, delegate responsibilities/tasks, and review work towards the completion/implementation of a LEAN/PI project or optimization effort.
6. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary to advise and consult with user personnel and make formal presentations of project findings and recommendations.
7. Effective customer service skills, with the ability to work with all levels within the organization.
8. Ability to teach application functionality, design standards, and process changes to the end user community and train trainers/end users.
9. Excellent organization skills; demonstrates confidence and creativity.
10. Adheres to applications security and control procedures in accordance with departmental, vendor standards, and regulatory bodies.

Understands systems functionality, reporting capabilities, interfacing and integration associated with applications assigned, especially by obtaining EPIC proficiencies in multiple applications. Participates in multiple aspects of electronic medical record development and implementation. Supports innovation in clinical practice and care delivery systems by staying current with innovations and literature in healthcare informatics and care delivery. Disseminates and incorporates research findings into practice. Assists in application design, optimization, and innovation following established change control methodologies and processes.

Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to assess, redesign and continually improve effectiveness and productivity of clinical and revenue cycle programs. Facilitates staff discussion and response to issues which effect clinical practice and care delivery. Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols as they relate to the use of clinical and revenue cycle applications.--

Anticipates and identifies complex clinical process, revenue cycle, and informatics issues; monitors and measures the risk factors. Communicates risk factors to informatics leadership and stakeholders. Serves as a resource person for daily operational issues within the electronic health record. Builds effective networks of internal and external subject matter experts. Direct liaison to health system Super Users/SMEs and LCMC Health Information Services. Meets with stakeholders to review solutions and issues; gain commitment on recommendations. Facilitates staff discussion and response to issues which effect clinical practice and care delivery.

Identifies barriers to change and accepts and manages ambiguity/complexity. Leads multidisciplinary groups toward solutions. Is visibly involved in obtaining customer feedback, incorporating customer requirements into service design and advocating for technical solutions to clinical processes. Provides support and coaches stakeholders in effective process analysis and improvement techniques and in using data to assess and improve department performance.

Essential Job Function #6: 15.0%

Participates in multiple aspects of electronic medical record development and implementation. Participates in training development and delivery, go-live and elbow support, testing activities (including scripting), reporting and clinical/revenue cycle needs prioritization for the electronic medical record.
