SummaryThe Advance Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position
serves as a Consult Coordinator for Community Care. The AMSA works
collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams

coordinated care delivery model (i.e., PACT, Specialty Clinics,
Compensation & Pension (C), Community Care RN, LPN, MSA).Performs
administrative duties, scheduling, customer service and other
duties as assigned for the proper and timely care coordination of
veterans.Clerical Duties consist of receiving community care
consults via Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), assuring
approval process of the consult has been addressed by Community
Care Coordination Nurse or VA provider.Contacting veterans for the
desired community care provider and preference date/time of
community care appointment.Maintains appointment schedules for
Community Care.Verifies Optum/HSRM portal ensuring Community Care
providers are in Optum Network and accepts VA patients and
payments.Prepares any required pre-appointment documents (HSRM,
community care consult, progress notes, lab and x-ray
reports).Schedules the appropriate level of care and document the
pertinent information regarding the community care scheduled
appointment in the appropriate consult utilizing HSRM/VSE assuring
all data has fed back into the consult toolbox.Verifies patient
attended appointment and request/obtain medical documentation from
community providers, document properly utilizing the consult
toolbox to alert Care Coordinating nurse and VA provider for
continuity of care.Processes consults following Office of Community
Care procedures and guidelines.Attend meetings with supervisor and
Community Care Nurses to manage and plan patient care; adjusting
the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.

Medical Support Assistant (Advanced), GS-6 Experience. Resume must
include hours per week for work experience credit. One year of
experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. This would include
experience entering, modifying, retrieving sensitive information
into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or
reports; scheduling medical appointments in a clinical setting;
performing patient support work; providing customer service and
identifying patient concerns to ensure satisfactory resolution, and
have an advanced level medical terminology. Demonstrated Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs
below: i. Ability to collaborate and communicate [with a wide range
of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical
doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists,
psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing
staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to
patients is met. ii. Ability to independently set priorities and
organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with
established processes, policies, and regulations. iii. Ability to
communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in
person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This
may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting
data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient
concerns. iv. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care
process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across
interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the
community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to
access to care. v. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures
associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or
care in the community operational activities that affect patient
flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include,
but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals,
follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. vi.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical
nature of language utilized by clinicians. Preferred
Characteristics & Experience: Knowledge of Microsoft programs
including, but not limited to PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and Excel
Experience scheduling across multiple platforms (GUI, Vista,
Telehealth Management Platform) Experience gained while working in
a medical office, hospital, inpatient/outpatient clinic, Ancillary
Service, Call Center Call, Office of Community Care, Consult
Scheduling, Direct Scheduling, Interdisciplinary Coordinated Care
Delivery Models, PACT TEAMLETS, Patient Systems,
Radiology/Imaging/Nuclear Medicine, Specialty Clinics. Applying
administrative judgment, the use of wide range of clinical flow
processes relating to access to care across multiple clinical,
specialties. Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based
