Assistant Director of Operations, Health Systems Analytics
Research CenterHealth Policy and ManagementLocation: New Orleans,
LASummaryThe Assistant Director of Operations (ADO) of the Health
Systems Analytics Research Center (HSARC) supports research
initiatives that improve health services delivery, outcomes, and
equity through data-driven approaches and interdisciplinary
collaboration. The ADO is responsible for monitoring program
activities, managing staff and budgets, and ensuring alignment with
the strategic goals of the Center. The Assistant Director serves as
the Principal Investigators' point-of-contact for Tulane's Research
Administration Unit, Sponsored Projects Administration, and Grants
and Contracts Administration. While a small amount of pre-award
follow-up is required on behalf of investigators, the Assistant
Director primarily manages post-award grant and contract activities
and provides logistics support to investigators. This includes, but
is not limited to, establishing subcontracts, consultancy
agreements, data agreements, and other contracts; project
purchasing and asset management; processing subcontract invoices
and payments; project meeting and event planning; hiring and
managing staff and Research Assistants; travel and expense
reporting and reconciliation; participant incentive purchasing and
tracking; and assisting in the implementation and evaluation of
research activities.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with research project management.
- Knowledge of federal funding mechanisms (e.g., NIH, CDC,
AHRQ).
- Knowledge of financial principles, especially sponsored
research budgeting and monitoring.
- Understanding of academic research administration, including
grant management activities from application to budget management,
monitoring goals and milestones, and tracking funder
regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with particular
emphasis on Excel.
- Effective leadership, organizational, and project management
skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities,
including complex problem-resolution skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others of
diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to manage workload and meet established deadlines,
working independently with little supervision.
- Ability to work well as part of a team, both within the
Department/University and without.SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR
INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL
TISSUES:
- Ability to complete and pass successfully the required
occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal
Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.REQUIRED
BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO
HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:Selected
candidates must complete and pass a background check and an
occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For
identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The
background investigation, required occupational health screening,
and any required drug screening will be conducted after a
conditional employment offer has been extended.Required Education
and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Data
Science, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in research administration or grant
management in a public health or academic setting.Preferred
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health, Health Services Research,
Health Policy, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience with public health research activities.
- Experience with Cayuse, Grants.gov, Concur, SciQuest, and
EBS/HCM.
- Knowledge of research methodologies and data analytics.
- Familiarity with project management techniques.Compensation
InformationThis position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is
