The Nurse Manager is responsible for a full range of duties, serving as the expert to oversee the operations of the assigned areas (Specialty Care Clinics) and demonstrates master in leading the Nursing Team. He/She has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to: Remove barriers through active collaboration with Nurse Executives, Nursing Supervisors, Providers, Site Managers, and support services. Manage resources effectively to improve overall patient outcomes, using the group process in decision-making. Assess the educational needs for staff and collaborates to assure that learning needs are met. Apply evidence-based practice principles to validate and/or improve nursing practice. Take corrective actions as necessary and assures staffing levels are maintained and continues to evaluate staffing needs; submitting request for additional staff and/or backfill vacant positions. Manage supplies and equipment inventories and assures equipment is maintained and in working order. Complete annual performance reviews and proficiencies in a timely manner and effectively maintains competency files, assuring competency and safe practice for assigned staff. Perform human resource functions including behavioral interviewing for selection of staff, in a fair unbiased diverse environment. Promptly submits documentation for staff promotions and awards. Effectively addresses disciplinary problems and closely collaborates with Employee Relations to revolve issues. Maintain working knowledge of the AFGE and NFFE Contract, abides by the contract, law regulations, and VA Directives. Implement actions plans to assure performance measures are met to improve organizational performance. Assure a safe patient environment and immediately corrects deficiencies. Submit reports and data in a timely manner. Support a work climate that is conducive to recruitment and retention of staff. TOUR OF DUTY: (Days - 0730-1600, Evenings, & As Patient Care Dictates)This is a NON BARGAINING unit position.Functional Statement Title: Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager, Specialty Care Clinics(Functional statement is available for review in the Human Resource Office)Relocation/Recruitment Incentives ARE authorized for this position.Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: MSN preferred Minimum of 5 years successful nursing practice Minimum of 2-3 years nurse manager experience Proven ability to work effectively with employees, customers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team Skilled in decision-making, sound clinical judgment and critical-thinking abilities Previous VA experience within the last 2 years Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree.
