Job Description:

The Chief Finance Officer is a strategic thought-partner and a part of the senior leadership team. The role requires a hands-on and participative manager who will lead and develop an internal team to support the areas of financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, long-range planning, compliance, and capital projects. The CFO plays a critical role in the overall strategic management of the Lycée. The CFO is a participative leader who collaborates with the CEO and senior leadership to design and implement the business, financial and operational strategies which are required to sustain and scale the school’s innovative and effective programs and practices. The CFO ensures that cost-effective systems and operations are in place and properly managed to support the school and its mission and coordinates the implementation of the financial plan across all work streams. While managing and developing an internal team, the CFO is accountable for leading and overseeing the finance and business functions of the organization. Finally, the CFO oversees Lycée’s philanthropic overall growth and expansion, assisting with providing financial resources through fundraising and grants thus bridging the financing gap and ensuring stability for the school’s long-term growth and development. The CFO ensures that all business, finance and advancement related operations function in an efficient and effective manner in order to fulfill the school’s goals, objectives and mission. Education, Expectations and Skills Master’s degree in business administration or equivalent experience in accounting, business, finance, public policy, or related field Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Lycée Français and advocate for the school’s interests Ability to prioritize, organize, and lead by example Significant understanding of charter school finance including how revenue is generated and the requirements associated with public funding and compliance A minimum of 3 (three) years in supervision and finance management Experience in school financial operations and with developing financial and operational strategies Experience in data analysis; well-versed on the impact of economic trends on the school and financial sources (mainly MFP) Knowledgeable of the banking system, of other sources of investment opportunity and treasury management Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including the LFNO Board, committees and external stakeholders Represents the school by speaking to and making presentations to external groups who have the capacity to influence/affect the school’s successes Ability to positively adapt and thrive within an evolving environment Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds Update job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participate in educational opportunities and/or professional organizations; read professional publications Preferred Qualifications and Education Requirements Experience in an urban school setting Interest in and experience with French language and culture 5 (five) years in finance management Certified Public Accountant certification and GAAP knowledge of fund/non-profit accounting Has experience with pre and post grant management Role and Responsibilities The duties of the Chief Financial Officer include, but are not limited to the following tasks: Finance and Operations Act as a thought partner to the CEO to achieve the organization’s mission and financial goals Provide leadership to, as well as direction and management of the finance and accounting team to ensure efficiency and effectiveness by implementing appropriate training, guidance and support Plan and conduct need and risk assessments for growth and improvement of school operations Oversee and optimize the processes for financial forecasting and budgets as well as the preparation of all financial reporting Advise on long-term business and financial planning; anticipate problems and develop plans to mitigate them and develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results. Initiate corrective actions. Minimize the impact of variances Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the organization Ensure that the contract billing, grant reimbursements (including state and federal awards and programs) and collection schedule are adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements Oversee annual tax compliance activities issues related to fiscal operations (e.g. 941, 5500, 990, 1042) Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary to provide effective financial controls and monitoring of financial activities to ensure an unmodified opinion Collaborate with school leaders, business office staff, directors and their staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations Serve as a liaison between the school and various public agencies and as financial ambassador at forums and charter schools collaboratives Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices that support effective financial practices and activities, as well as transparent financial controls and monitoring; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual annually Analyze, present and submit financial reports in an accordance with LAUGH guidelines, authorizer requirements, IRS requirements in an accurate and timely manner Adhere to metrics and requirements of the authorizer for financial performance necessary to ensure maximum charter renewal Assist the CEO and the board with fiscal aspects of special projects, i(e.g. fundraising, capital projects) Compile the financials of Amis du Lycée, the school’s supporting foundation with LFNO to create consolidated budgets and actuals to present a complete view of the organization and the overall strategic goals Job descriptions are created to provide a framework of responsibilities and are not inclusive of all duties that may be required.
