About the position
The Program Director Emergency Preparedness assumes full
responsibility for preparedness, response, recovery for both
internal and external disasters, policy planning, and complying
with regulations related to emergency management .
Bachelor’s Degree, required, plus five (5) Years professional
level healthcare experience in one or a combination of the
following: emergency management, fire or police services, public
safety, public health, health administration, or engineering.
Must possess k nowledge of the policy, programmatic and
procedural aspects of emergency management programs, such as hazard
mitigation, JCAHO standards for emergency preparedness, etc.
Ability to analyze and evaluate the goals, operations and
effectiveness of programs and to synthesize diverse sources of
information in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Ability to write, gather, and summarize information in written
reports for after action reports, policies and procedures, and
plans. Knowledge of occupational safety regulations, model safety
programs, grant writing, and risk management strategies a plus.
Requires the ability to deal with Environmental Conditions such
as, working inside and outside, possibly in all types of weather,
and working in close quarters with others under stressful
Directs, plans, coordinates and monitors the Emergency
Preparedness Program for University Medical Center New
Orleans. Oversees related policies, and procedures ensuring
they are current and meet government and regulatory compliance.
Plans, implements, evaluates and documents emergency
preparedness drills and training. Supervises staff assigned during
activation of incident command and determines equipment and
supplies needed for the program.
Represents the hospital in emergency preparedness planning
activities involving internal, local, and governmental
Acts as liaison for the hospital with public safety agencies in
Identifies, applies, and secures federal grants for funds to
support the Emergency Management Programs.
