About the Position:
The individual provides direction over all staff on the
in-patient Oncology Unit. This position requires advanced
leadership skills as well as ongoing training to ensure the
highest-level quality patient care is delivered. Decisions this
individual makes are done so collaboratively with the Senior
Director and/or CNO.
Valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice
American Heart Association BLS-HCP.
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Advanced Onlcology Certified
M SN required.
Three (3) years in an Oncology managerial role or similar
Service: Promotes excellence in service by effectively
communicating (written and oral) with all those the position serves
including, patients & their significant others, employees,
agencies, physicians, families. Listens carefully and addresses
concerns while acting as a liaison between parties.
Quality: Utilizes the nursing process as well as PDSA frameworks
to ensure quality patient care is delivered. It is expected that
this level will achieve OCN specialty certification and will hold
incumbents responsible for all necessary specialty education and
certifications necessary for the safe delivery of care.
Participates in nursing services quality initiatives (e.g. safety
huddles, clinical rounding, NDNQI, shared governance). Schedules,
assigns in accordance with needs of operation and consideration for
abilities and licenses and skills. Addresses corrective actions and
hires in collaboration with senior director. Supports shared
governance structure ensuring staff participate in a manner which
productive for the departments. Sets quality goals, participates in
NDNQI, Commission on Cancer and other endeavors to improve
outcomes. Participates and adheres to all Joint Commission, LDH,
CMS recommendations and survey results. Complies with all hospital
policies and procedures.
People: Leads staff in a collaborative manner in the development
and implementation of standards of care and practice for designated
areas. Develops and maintains a systematic approach for operations
of assigned areas and communicates this plan effectively to staff,
physicians, other leaders. Schedules and assigns staff, supervises
and directs the work of the staff in assigned areas. Collaborates
or participates with interviewing, hiring, evaluating and
discipling staff as required.
Finance: Implements strategies to optimize fiscal standing.
Assists in accurately forecasting volume and expenses so that
budgets are precise and achievable as well as fiscally sound.
Monitors, evaluates and takes action to meet budgeted FTE’ and
expenses in accordance with LCMC/UMC policies and procedures.
Knowledgeable and monitors the Labor Management System daily.
Growth: Implements strategic plans in collaborating with Senior
director and other leaders to improve revenue and accelerate growth
and reducing costs. Need personal growth – plan to attend
conferences, educational seminars that can improve knowledge of
best practices for the Cancer Center.
