The Senior Accountant will be an integral member of the Finance Department and responsible for completing key parts of the monthly accounting close and quarterly/annual statutory statements. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of both statutory and GAAP accounting principles and be highly motivated. Qualified applicants must be detail-oriented, committed to accuracy, and effective communicators within the team and throughout the organization.

Education

Required - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

Preferred - Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA)

Work Experience

Required - 3 years related experience

Preferred - 5+ years of health insurance industry experience with strong knowledge of statutory and GAAP accounting principles

Certifications

Preferred -Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Preferred -CPA and 2 years of experience

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facility locations.
  • Ability to work various hours, such as nights, weekends, etc.

Job Duties

  • Perform monthly accounting close in accordance with GAAP/Statutory requirements including preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Prepare and submits quarterly and annual statutory statements
  • Stay current with changes on statutory rules and regulations and be able to assess business impact.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts.
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and anomalies.
  • Prepare and file state premium tax returns and related forms.
  • Handles reinsurance reporting needs and billing submissions.
  • Develop/Maintain vendor reconciliations for accruals and other requests.
  • Collaboration with Corp Accounting Services as required (AP, Treasury, etc.).
  • Assist with external and regulatory audit requests and other regulatory requirements.
  • Various projects as needed.
  • Other related duties as required.
