Job Description

Under general supervision, the Field Inspector I will perform an inspection of food products (various categories), loading/ unloading processes, and sampling of food products (various categories) per established government regulations and standard operating procedures.

  • Performs Inspection/sampling of multiple food categories of products at different locations
  • Supervises loading and counts and temperatures of food products in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
  • Physically measures, weighs, counts, samples, and takes temperatures of a variety of food products in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
  • Possess basic knowledge of food safety and food manufacturing
  • Dispatches food samples from the inspection site to the laboratory
  • Takes detailed notes and photographs to document the inspection process, and reports all required field activities as per SGS inspection forms
  • Maintains regular communication with administrative staff with reference to job status, progress, problems, etc.
  • Stays informed of and adhere to the latest industry and client procedures
  • Provides additional brand protection and demonstrates proper food quality assurance due diligence to Retail and Food Service customers
  • Report whether or not the factory has to rework or destroy non-conforming production lot(s) - potentially saving thousands to millions of dollars
  • Determine supplier compliance, approval, and decision to reduce or heighten their own product inspection
  • Assess adequacy (range and calibration) of equipment used for inspections and tests
  • Ensures equipment is maintained and up to date
  • At all times, adopts safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees and clients, in line with SGS policies and procedures
  • At all times, comply with the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
    Qualifications
    • High School Diploma AND
    • 0-2 years of previous experience in grain or oil inspection and/or grain grading operation
    • Completion of required training programs (Basic and Level I) to achieve and maintain proficiency at the Field Inspector I level
    • OR equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as travel to various client sites is required
      Preferred
      • Associate degree in an agriculture-related field, AND
      • 1-2 years of experience in grain or oil inspection and/or grain grading operation
      • Completion of required training programs (basic and Level I) to achieve and maintain proficiency at the Field Inspector I level
