*Duties and Responsibilities: *
The Dean is responsible for the following academic programs and
services: Care and Development of Young Children, Criminal Justice,
General Studies, Teaching Grades, Transfer degrees, American Sign
Language, Visual Communications, Anthropology, Theater, Fine Arts,
Geography, History, Humanities, Mass Communication, Music,
Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, English,
English as a Second Language, College and Career Success Skills,
French, Reading, Spanish, Fine Art Gallery, Writing Center,
Hibernia Enrichment Center, Images Magazine and WISE Woman
60 % Oversees the formulation of instructional objectives
college-wide and guides all curricular revisions within the School
of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
Develops and implements college-wide long-range programs, plans,
goals, and policies.
Ensures the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education
plans align with and support the College's mission, vision,
strategic initiatives and the goals of the Academic and Student
Collaborates with department chairs on the City Park, West Bank,
Sidney Collier, Jefferson, and River City campus/sites in
developing and coordinating programs of study, curricula offerings,
and institutional policies and objectives.
Develops a faculty participation process for curriculum review, and
informs all faculty of proposed curriculum revisions prior to
meetings of the Curriculum Committee.
Recommends the acquisition of appropriate learning resources in the
area of Business.
Coordinates with colleagues on the preparation and periodic
revision of course syllabi.
Works with the appropriate department chairs, to develop a schedule
of course offerings, and coordinate teaching assignments across the
Monitors enrollments and faculty loads; monitors, analyzes and
adjusts courses in response to student needs.
Conducts regular School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and
Education meetings to apprise the faculty of institutional plans,
activities, and expectations.
Encourages and supports college-wide implementation of teaching
activities that promote learning-centered education within the
School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
Supervises School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education
courses during the day, evening, weekend, and online.
Organizes the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and
Education registration and pre-registration schedules on all
Maintains current knowledge of program rules and regulations, and
communicates the changes to all School of Liberal Arts, Social
Sciences, and Education faculty and staff.
Secures and maintains appropriate certification and accreditation
status for School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education
Organizes and chairs School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and
Education meetings, leads workshops, facilitates group discussions,
and involves the faculty and staff in idea generation, goal setting
and decision making on a college-wide basis.
Meets schedules and timelines.
Maintains essential School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and
Education records, including student records at all
Initiates budget requests and coordinates execution of approved
budget in the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and
Manages facilities and equipment for the School of Liberal Arts,
Social Sciences, and Education, Including maintenance and control
of inventory at all campuses and sites.
Works closely with appropriate instructional administrators,
faculty, staff, and students to ensure proper implementation of lab
Develops reports that summarize the progress, problems, and
prospects on-a college-wide basis.
Coordinates efforts to seek funds from external funding sources to
maintain, support, and improve college wide School of Liberal Arts,
Social Sciences, and Education programs.
15% Encourages and facilitates collaboration between members and
instructors in area high schools as well as in area colleges and
Initiates and maintains working relationships with leaders in
private and public sectors to determine need for new courses or
Cooperates with area colleges and universities to promote transfer
of Delgado Community College credits through articulation
Cooperates with other agencies to promote technical and community
Serves on appropriate faculty and administrative committees as

all programs of study in the School of Liberal Arts, Social
Sciences, and Education.
15% Actively recruits and interviews qualified full-time and
adjunct faculty on a college-wide basis.
Makes recommendations for personnel decisions.
Orients new faculty within the School of Liberal Arts, Social
Sciences, and Education.
Evaluates teaching faculty and division staff college-wide.
Encourages professional development of all faculty.
10% Assumes special responsibilities on assignment from the Vice
Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs
*Required Education: * Master's Degree from an institution
accredited by an authorized accrediting agency recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education.
*Required Experience: * Minimum five years experience in higher
Demonstrated success in administration, professional activities,
and applied experience in field with traditional, adult, and
Dynamic leadership, experience in faculty development, and
excellent communication skills.
Flexible with the ability to be a collaborative team player.
Demonstrated commitment to student success, outcomes-based
education and sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of
a diverse population.

*Preferred Education: * Doctorate Degree (preferred in discipline
related to Liberal Arts, Social Science, or Education.)
*Preferred Experience: * Substantial teaching experience in a
community college preferred.
Leadership at the Dean, Assistant Dean, Director, or Chair
*Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a
condition of employment.*
