Job Description:

- Salary: $39,893/year

- Full Time: 35 hours/week

- Eligible for participation in New Orleans City Pension

This is an entry-level technical position in the New Orleans Public Library System. Employees in this class are responsible for providing excellent customer service and performing technical work relating to the operations of the Library Information Systems Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Technical work of a specialized nature in desktop and mobile device support.

- Answers telephones and provides telephone technical support.

- Monitors IT help desk and works support tickets as necessary.

- Documenting, tracking and monitoring incidents and problems to ensure timely resolution.

- Adhering to Help Desk policy and procedures, system documentation, and administrative and user guides.

- Maintains an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software being used by the library to provide high-level support to library staff and customers

- Installs workstations and printers; physically moves equipment as requested or needed.

- Monitors cables and ensures reliable connectivity to the network by visually inspecting connectivity between computer and wall jack. Reterminating cables when necessary.

- Installs computer hardware and software. Moves PC equipment to different locations. Performs workstation-related set-ups by using keyboard to install software or troubleshoot.

- Performing diagnostics, troubleshooting and best methods to resolve user hardware and software issues.

- Updates operating system and manages memory usage, network printing and technical resources

- Participates in staff meetings, providing input and suggestions.

- Maintains supplies and equipment inventories and requisitions new supplies as needed.

- Related work as required.

- Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Must be will to operate a Ford Transit 250 or similar.

Minimum Qualifications

- EITHER: A Bachelor's Degree\* in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

- OR: An Associates Degree\* in computer science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience at a medium to large scale computer or client/server system involving responsibility for customer communications, problem analysis on computer equipment and peripherals, system performance monitoring, and performing network functions.

- OR: A High School Diploma or GED Equivalency Diploma issued by a State Department of Education.\* AND four (4) years of progressively responsible experience at a medium to large scale computer or client/server system involving responsibility for customer communications, problem analysis on computer equipment and peripherals, system performance monitoring, and performing network functions.

Preferred Qualifications

- Two (2) years of paid work experience as a Personal Computer Technician (A+ or Network+ certification preferred) providing customer service in the installation, repair, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of networked PC hardware, printers, and software within a Windows environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Demonstrable knowledge of PCs, PC servers, and computer program use and applications.

- Demonstrable knowledge of PC and PC server operating systems.

- Knowledge of computer training techniques and ability to teach computer skills to users varying with varying technical comprehension levels.

- Demonstrable skills in setting up, loading, configuring, and troubleshooting PC software, hardware, and peripherals.

- Ability to assemble and disassemble PC components, including cabling.

- Ability to analyze problems with computer systems and provide solutions.

- Ability to troubleshoot and to resolve program, computer, and printer and other equipment problems.

- Ability to resolve most assigned tasks with little to no technical assistance.

- Ability to interact with library management and frontline staff.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to meet deadlines and pay attention to details.

- Ability to effectively coordinate and complete multiple tasks.

- Ability to work occasional weekend and evening work shifts.

Physical Demands

- Must be able to work nights and weekends.

- Must be able to stand for extensive periods of time during the work day.

- Must be able to work at any location in the New Orleans Public Library System.Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, which involves

- some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.

- Tasks include lifting and moving materials weighing 15-44 pounds on a regular basis and driving between library sites.

- Ability to stoop, bend, twist, turn and move computer equipment from place to place in the library.

- Visual acuity to read computer screen and perform various detailed work.

Kind of Examination

- A basic technology skills test will be issued during the interview process to ensure applicant possesses the above qualifications.
