Job Description Job Description Isidore Newman School seeks a
full-time long-term substitute for Science classes in our Middle
School for the time frame of January 26-May 22, 2026. The ideal
candidate will have meaningful experience designing and teaching a
range of engaging and challenging science courses, with expertise
in earth science and a strong background in Middle School
instruction. At Newman, the science classrooms are designed to be
dynamic, engaging, student-centered spaces. Newman teachers
challenge students to think critically, to ask big questions, and
to develop the habits of mind required to be responsible citizens
and to navigate an increasingly complex world. A dedicated educator
who values intellectual curiosity and thoughtful inquiry will
thrive in Newman's Science Department. The ideal candidate will

Newman's Science Department. Middle School Science at Newman
Science teachers with expertise in earth science and/or
physics-based sciences will be given priority. A student-centered
approach to science, with a focus on inquiry-based learning and
hands-on experiences, is at the heart of the Newman science
program. Teachers adept in this type of classroom practice will be
a good fit. Prior knowledge of design-thinking methodology is
helpful for this role as well. Newman's Science educators work and
teach in The Rupa and Tarun Jolly Science and Technology Building,
a three-story facility opened in 2020 with nine state-of-the art
classrooms and four signature labs designed to inspire inquiry,
experimentation, and innovation. Working at Newman Founded in 1903,
Newman has a rich history in the heart of New Orleans, just blocks
from historic St. Charles Avenue, Audubon Park, and the vibrant
music culture that makes our city one-of-a-kind. Our community
includes approximately 1,250 students and 250 employees from Green
Trees to 12th grade. There is a spirit of camaraderie and

important qualifications include : A bachelor's degree or higher in
Science or a closely related field; graduate work in the discipline
desired. Substantial teaching experience at the Middle School level
with demonstrated relational, student-centered pedagogy that
embodies our school philosophy of "We learn to do by doing." Values
strong relationships with their students while maintaining high
expectations in the academic program. In-depth knowledge of current
scientific research methods and procedures, including data
collection, evaluation, analysis, and interpretation. Cultural
competency demonstrating respect for diversity of identities and
experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusion.
Professional orientation towards collaboration and innovation,
including strong proficiency with technology appropriate to the
Science classroom. A reflective practitioner, committed to a
continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning. A
positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and
written communication skills. Must meet and maintain any and all
federal, state, and local requirements to work in an educational
childcare setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teaching up to five sections of Science, which may include yearlong
survey courses or semester electives, and providing extra help to
support students during regularly scheduled study halls. Develop
and implement engaging daily lesson plans that align with the
department's curriculum and school's pedagogical ethos. Foster a
growth mindset among all students. Provide one-on-one and small
group assistance to support student learning. Communicate with
parents and advisors as needed to support student learning. Write
clear, detailed report card comments that help parents understand
the progress of their child in our curriculum. Serve as advisor to
a small group of students and/or participate in extracurricular
activities. Chaperone school trips, including grade level overnight
trips that engage in outdoor, experiential education. Implement
classroom and communication practices that foster the growth of
ethical behavior, social skills, and excellent work habits.
